Rolleiflex 3.5f Type 1
A twin-lens reflex camera by Rolleiflex, renowned for its precision engineering and distinctive waist-level viewfinder. Compact yet technically sophisticated, the Rolleiflex became a favored tool among photographers for its ability to produce exceptionally sharp, square-format images.
Its design encourages a particular way of seeing: looking down into the camera rather than directly through it, creating a quieter, more observational relationship between photographer and subject.
This camera was central to Lee Miller’s practice, used both in her fashion work for Vogue and during her pioneering photojournalism. When Lee was using a Rolleiflex, it was like an extension of her.
Associated with some of the most important photographic work of the twentieth century, the Rolleiflex represents not only a technical innovation, but a way of working: deliberate, intuitive, and deeply engaged with the world in front of the lens.
