Collection 1. Lee Miller
The objects people keep are rarely accidental. Some pieces in this selection relate directly to Lee Miller herself: a camera like the one she carried through moments of glamour and war, an iconic photograph of her friends, and a surrealist image taken during her time in Egypt. Other objects were chosen more intuitively, as a way of entering the atmosphere of her world. The Cartier watch recalls her Paris years and her instinctive way of mixing valuable jewellery with sentimental or unexpected pieces. The blue brooch brought to mind her love of colour and playful adornment, while the vase felt like something that could easily have existed in the kitchen at Farley Farm. Together, these objects offer a personal way of approaching an artist’s life through taste and association.
