Silk Evening Bag, ca. 1950

A black silk evening bag by À la Reine des Fées, Paris, dating to circa 1950. This is the kind of piece that seems to have slipped directly out of a George Hoyningen-Huene image.

The bag is distinguished by its sculptural clasp, set with imitation stones in the style of black onyx, emerald, and diamond. A composition that recalls the geometric elegance of earlier Art Deco design. While produced in the post-war period, the bag retains a strong visual connection to the glamour and refinement of the 1920s, reflecting the persistence of this aesthetic language beyond its original moment. Selected for its evocation of that enduring elegance, for the craftsmanship and attention to detail.
